In my early '50s, I was a well respected public administrator in a large
metropolitan area. An allegation of financial impropriety led to a 3-year FBI-IRS investigation and a "bullseye"
on my back. Before I could catch my breath, the U.S. Attorney gave me a "take it or leave it" offer that changed
my life forever.
I was in a state of shock. I could not
believe what was happening. After all my years as an executive in control of every aspect of my life, I felt lost and
helpless. Stunned and focused on ending the chaos, I took the deal and was promptly sentenced to 31 months in federal
prison. That was the low point.
Upon arrival at prison,
I was astounded to discover how many fellow inmates were as lost as I was. I decided to focus my time and effort on
learning how this system really worked and on regaining control of my life.
Speaking with hundreds of inmates and scores of prison officials, I came to realize that there is a great deal a defendant
can do to help him/herself and get out of prison faster. I used that knowledge and managed to walk out of the prison
gate after serving only 15 months of the 31-month sentence.
Long
before my departure from prison, I dedicated my life to helping others who face federal incarceration. My mission is
